Tiger Woods told by Jack Nicklaus: I feel bad for you

Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus says ll never break his record of 18 major championship titles. 

Has expressed varying opinions over the years as to whether the now 49-year-old would emulate or break his record. 

The Golden Bear was still optimistic that Woods could leapfrog him in 2018 after he won the Tour Championship at East Lake. 

A year later Woods won his fifth green jacket – and 15th major title – at and not been the same since he crashed his luxury SUV in the Los Angeles hills in February 2021. 

Now, though, Nicklaus has finally said he doesn’t believe Woods will get it done. 

“If he remained healthy I think he would’ve gotten it, but he didn’t remain healthy,” Nicklaus told Golf Channel during the 
Nicklaus, 85, added that he ‘feels bad’ for Woods but joked: “He’s had a relatively good career.”

As for the record, Nicklaus said he thinks it will stand ‘for a while’. 

Woods has not spoken publicly too much about trying to break the record. 

In 2020, however, he did admit that time was running out. 

“The reality is that the golf courses are getting bigger, they are getting longer,” he previously said. 

“It’s getting tighter and it’s getting harder to win events, but you look at the leaderboard of most major championships, you see the same guys. 

“May not be always the same winners, but you see the same handful of guys are there.

“They understand how to win major championships, how to win the big events, how to plod their way along, how difficult it is to win these big events.”

Matching, and then surpassing, Nicklaus’ record seemed a matter of when not if when Woods collected major number 14 at the 2008

In other Woods news, it has been confirmed that he will play the uber-exclusive Seminole Pro-Member. 

GOLF reported the news first on Sunday. 

Woods – who was recently spotted  daughter’s high school soccer success – will team with former PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh.

Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and NBA player Shane Battier are also on their team. 

World No. 1 amateur Luke Clanton is also playing. 

Woods has not indicated when his next official PGA Tour start will be. 

He is not in the field for next week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational and he has not indicated whether he will be in the field for the 2025 Players at TPC Sawgrass.
