Tennis star tests positive for meth as Nick Kyrgios declares the ‘world has gone mad’

Nick Kyrgios has weighed in after a tennis player tested positive for meth.The International Tennis Integrity Agency announced that Portuguese-born Goncalo Oliveira, who currently represents Venezuela, was provisionally suspended following the failed test.Oliveira cannot compete in, coach at, or attend any professional tennis tournament while he is suspended.The ITIA confirmed that Oliveira, 29, provided an in-competition sample while competing in an ATP Challenger event in Mexico, on November 25. This sample was split into A and B samples.Analysis showed the A sample contained methamphetamine, which is prohibited in the tennis anti-doping programme. Oliveira did not have a therapeutic use exemption for meth and has therefore been provisionally suspended.His ban started on January 17. The 29-year-old did not appeal his provisional suspension.After learning of Oliveira’s positive test, Kyrgios has now had his say, claiming the “world has gone mad”.The Australian has been outspoken about high-profile doping cases, including one involving Jannik Sinner, who was found to have “bore no fault or negligence” for two failed tests last year.
