Simone Biles’ Feelings About 88-Pound Met Gala Dress Unearthed as She Prepares to Go with Jonathan Owens This Time Around

“I typically gravitate towards classic, laid back styles”, said a 16-year-old Simone Biles when asked about the kind of fashion she leans forward to. Little did that teenage Olympic gold medalist know that one day she would become a diva by beating Taylor Swift herself in the fashion race. That’s exactly what happened when Simone Biles & Jonathan Owens got their invite to be at the Met as 2025 Costume Institute Benefit Host Committee. And Taylor missed out on the list.

After the Olympics ended, Simone Biles ended up showcasing her iconic fashion sense as she turned into a cheerleader for husband Jonathan Owens. Post Paris, Simone did not waste any time turning into a cheerleader for Owens as he played for the Chicago Bears. The Bears might not had a successful season but her WAG outfits did stir up the NFL world. Little did Simone know then that she’d end up going to one of the most prestigious fashion events in the world. But hold on, this won’t be the first time for the Gymnastics GOAT to step into the fashion world.

Yes, that’s right, Simone made her debut at the Met Gala back in 2021, merely months after one of the biggest moments in her career – when she withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics citing her mental health not being at par. While that moment itself was enough to bring a revolution in the gymnastics world, her aura on the red carpet of Met 2021 was completely something else. Makes it curious to want to see how she dressed up right continues below this ad

The 4’8″ frame wearing custom AREA x Athleta was an 88-pound dress designed by Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk of Area. Needless to say, the couture turned out to be as beautiful as it can get to rock the theme of Met 2021 – In America – A Lexicon of Fashion. Brand Partner of Athleta, wearing that 88-pound dress made Simone feel even more empowered. In her words to Vogue in her final fitting of the dress, she said, “How do I feel in the dress? It’s definitely heavy, but I feel beautiful, strong, and empowered.”

And that’s exactly was the purpose of the three-in-one outfit consists of a hand-embellished skirt covered in Swarovski crystals and weighing 88 pounds; a minidress underneath; and a glittering black catsuit decorated to look like a starry night sky (though each of the stars is really Athleta’s logo, the chi).

That moment for Simone coming off of Tokyo debacle to the Met showed her strength, and why it was important to take a step back from the mat in 2021. Standing up for her mental health, Simone became a victim of the countless hurls, some fans giving her a quitter tag and whatnot. But this moment, right on the red carpet of the Met, Simone once again proved her strength and grit to the world.

From Olympic golds to Met Gala glam, is Simone Biles redefining what it means to be a GOAT?

While the Gymnastics GOAT’s customized crystalized dress for Met 2021 was indeed one of a kind, and it will be worthwhile to see what she comes up with this year, her take on NFL outfits to cheer for Jonathan Owens is slightly different. Last year just before Christmas, while heading toward yet another game of Owens, Biles sat down for an interview with Olympics.com.
Therein, she let out her thoughts about what goes on in the making of her NFL outfits. “Honestly, I reach out to some of the creators that make the apparel, and I have no ideas. I let them kind of freeball it, and I say, ‘Surprise me.’ And then that’s how I piece them together”, said Biles of her outfits.
