Angel Reese and Simone Biles Continue to Shine After Being Named to the MET Gala Committee

A number of sports stars have been invited to join the MET Gala 2025 organizing committee, including Angel Reese, Simone Biles, Jonathan Owens and Sha’Carri Richardson. These athletes will play a key role in what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting events on the fashion calendar.

Taking place on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the MET Gala will once again shine a spotlight on the intersection of culture, fashion, and celebrity.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has been named the honorary chair for this year\’s gala, with Formula One sensation Lewis Hamilton serving as a co-chair. Other notables in leadership positions include Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams. The organizing committee, with the exception of longtime chair Anna Wintour, is made up entirely of Black leaders, reflecting this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Committee members include athletes and celebrities such as Usher, Regina King and Audra McDonald. This year’s gala will be a celebration of lavish and iconic red carpet moments, with Reese and Biles, both known for their stylish looks off the court, set to add their influence to the event.

While Reese has become known for her striking pre-game outfits, Biles has adopted a more glamorous NFL WAG-inspired sartorial identity in recent months. The two women, along with the rest of the committee, represent a growing trend among athletes to blur the lines between sport and fashion.

The Met Gala is not only a lavish gathering, but also an important fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute. The event regularly generates millions of dollars in donations, which fund the museum’s annual fashion exhibition. Beyond the philanthropic aspect, the evening offers attendees unparalleled media coverage, making it one of the most exclusive and high-profile events in the world. While audiences are often enthralled by the glitzy costumes and star-studded guest list, much of what goes on inside the gala remains private – mobile phones are banned at the event, making it one of the rare times the celebrity world remains under wraps. One thing is for sure, though: The meal will be nothing short of extraordinary.

This year, it will be prepared by celebrity chef Kwame Onwuachi, known for his appearance on “Top Chef” and his Afro-Caribbean restaurants, Tatiana in New York and Dogon in Washington, D.C.

As the MET Gala approaches, excitement is building for what promises to be a historic celebration of Black style, culture and creativity, highlighted by the presence of some of the world’s biggest sports stars.
