McIlroy Compares Scheffler To Tiger Woods

Rory McIlroy has recently drawn parallels between his fellow golfer Scottie Scheffler and golfing legend Tiger Woods, praising both for their remarkable consistency and error-free play. McIlroy highlighted Scheffler’s ability to play without making mistakes, stating, “I’ve never – this is anyone, this is Tiger, this is in the history of golf – I don’t think I’ve ever seen a golfer play as many bogey-free rounds as Scottie.”

Despite having to sit out several tournaments due to injury, Scheffler has enjoyed significant success on the greens. Recently, he missed The Sentry at Kapalua and the American Express tournament after accidentally injuring his hand. The 28-year-old golfer recounted this unfortunate incident, explaining how he was making ravioli from scratch when the stem of a wine glass broke and sliced his hand. “I had my hand on top and it broke. I’ve heard nothing but horror stories since this happened about wine glasses, so be careful… It broke and the stem kind of got me in the hand,” Scheffler remarked.

Addressing the incident, Scheffler demonstrated a humorous attitude, noting, “I can’t live in a bubble, like I’ve got to live my life and accidents happen. It could have been a lot worse.” He also shared tales of others who suffered serious injuries from similar accidents, emphasizing how his experience could have been significantly worse.

Alongside McIlroy’s notable comparison, the Northern Irish golfer emphasized Scheffler’s impressive year, which included winning nine titles, among them the prestigious Masters and Olympic gold medal. He stated, “He just doesn’t make mistakes. He plays the right shot at the right time over and over and over again.”

Adding to the light-hearted nature of their conversation, McIlroy humorously suggested, “I think he made enough money to hire a chef. It’s like, ‘why are cooking yourself?’”

Responding to McIlroy’s jab, Scheffler couldn’t resist providing his own witty comeback. “I’ve got a chef. Her name’s Meredith. She’s pretty cute,” he remarked, highlighting the close relationship with his wife.

Looking forward, Scheffler is anticipated to kick off his 2025 golfing campaign at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which features a staggering competition purse of $20 million.
