Lewis Hamilton: Toto Wolff releases first reaction to Ferrari F1 photo and message to ex-Mercedes driver
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff admitted that seeing the “iconic” photo of Lewis Hamilton in Ferrari red after his “amicable divorce” was like “meeting an old partner and a new friend for the first time”
Toto Wolff said he told Lewis Hamilton that his first photo as a Ferrari driver was “iconic”, and the Mercedes boss revealed how he felt when he first saw his former driver wearing the colors of Ferrari, one of his biggest rivals.
The first photos of Hamilton at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters were released last week, creating worldwide buzz. The seven-time world champion also took part in a photocall before driving the team’s car for the first time, wearing the Italian team’s famous red overalls. In Mercedes, when Hamilton rewrote Formula 1 with a silver arrow, Wolf acknowledged that the first Ferrari photo showed him.
\ “This is a bit like the fact that you are divorced, and everything is OK, and you first see your partner as a new friend!” “But I’m really happy for him, and I told him those pictures he took were iconic – they were so well organised and it was no surprise with Lewis.”
“We scratched our heads a lot last year, especially at the beginning,” Wolff said of the 2024 W15.
“Like all the other teams, we had our ups and downs; we had some very dominant performances and then some races that weren’t so good. “At the end of the day, when the flag drops, we’ll see in qualifying in Melbourne where we are.”
Craig Slater provides an update as Lewis Hamilton crashes during Ferrari testing, something described as “completely normal” at this stage of pre-season.
Italian Antonelli, who turned 18 last September and passed his driving test this week, is regarded as one of motorsport’s brightest rising stars, with Wolff adding: “He’s been in the team, integrated into the team, for such a long time. \”
