Tiger Woods leaves funny message for his mother ahead of TGL match against Rory McIlroy

Tiger Woods has returned to professional golf but is not joining the PGA Tour.

Since its launch earlier this month, Woods has been competing in the unique TGL (TGL) which he co-founded with major championship winner Rory McIlroy. TGL is exploring innovative formats that combine traditional golf features with the use of golf simulators.

Monday night marked one of the more notable tournaments in the league’s short history, featuring Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club facing off against co-owner McIlroy’s Boston Commons Golf. Before the match, Woods reached out to his mother, Kultida Woods, to share a fun message.

“Hey mom,” Woods said. “Today is not going to suck, OK?”

Woods kept his promise as his team defeated McIlroy’s team 4-3 in overtime. Unfortunately for fans watching at home, neither Woods nor McIlroy played in the overtime that was decided in a close match. Woods’ last professional tournament was last summer’s British Open. He played in every major in 2024 except for the Masters, where he finished 60th and missed the cut in all others. Woods also competed in the Genesis Invitational earlier this season but withdrew after the first round.
